INTRODUCTION
A significant number of learners enter MAHSA International School with a low proficiency level in English. Given the fact that these learners are in the digital age where they are bombarded with various information, they need both basic and advanced skills to allow them to critically analyze information they receive and to contribute to the school and wider community.
The primary goal of the MESH Programme is to provide non and limited English Proficient students with support and intensive instruction in English, which will allow them to become successful in the mainstream classroom and the school environment.
MESH PATHWAYS
At MAHSA International our MESH programme has been structured purposefully to cater for students through the following pathways:
Entry into the MAHSA English Support Hub
Students with no or very little English will participate in an intensive English programme during school hours. The majority of the day is spent with our specialist MESH staff within the centre, although the students will join their cohort for classes in Physical Education, Music, Art & Design, Languages and Mathematics. They will also attend Assemblies and the Cocurricular Activities programme.

The MESH Programme involves the following phases:
- Identification and Assessment - this will be done during the enrolment process for new students;
- Placement into the after-school MESH programme and the MESH classes in the mainstream;
- Instruction
- Assessment
- Promotion and Exit
- Monitoring
All MESH classes are levelled so that students can progress at the appropriate pace. Small class sizes afford students and teachers ample time to focus on vital skills in small groups or on a one to one basis, depending on individual needs. With our diverse student population, we have students joining us from various backgrounds in English, ranging from complete beginners to students transferring from schools where English has been the main language of instruction. Therefore, at MISKL we have a dedicated MESH team experienced in all levels of proficiency whose goal is to ensure that students can advance not only academically, but also so that they can acquire the language needed for day to day communication and routines in an English-speaking school.
